Saviynt mobile app was first introduced in 2018 and it simplifies identity governance. It helps them to easily control emergency access and monitor privileged activity, manage identity and application, and assign access according to risk analysis anytime.

NOTE: The Saviynt mobile app is still under development and has not been officially released. Due to the company's confidentiality clause, only part of the design process and prototype are shown here.

INITIAL PROBLEMS

RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: Use Case and User

The main services of Saviynt’s products are Identity Governance, Cloud PAM, Identity, Third-Party Access Governance, Data Access Governance and Application Access Governance. All the products has similar features and the most commonly used features among them are request, review, controls, intelligence, design and admin.

In order to know what features we shall add to the new experience, we are also thinking if every user use these features frequently. After communicating with our customers(users), we realized that:

  • Most of users only checked during office hours, which means they enjoy our service through a laptop.

  • Only managers would use through cellphone and check if there are risks to deal with.

  • Larger device is preferred while handling tasks.

We decided to make the Team Manager as the main user of the app, and improve their experience on [Review the Requests] and [Champaign] on mobile.

PERSONA

Adam Jackson

32 years old, Team Manager at IBM

Adam is a team manager working at IBM. Due to the COVID-19, the company has undergone many personnel changes, which has also increased his workload. Some of the team members left or moved to other groups, and many new members joined.

GOAL:

I hoped I can review the team member's requests more quickly, assess the risks and solve the problem in time. There are so requests recently and I really wish to increase efficiency on handling these tasks. Also, it would be lovely to notify me any risk and important announcements.

How might we improve the office efficiency of customer companies on mobile experience?

RESEARCH: Web & Application

Since this is my first time involved in designing applications based on web service, I started my research by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of web pages and applications, in order to better utilize the advantages of the application.

mobile web

Pros:

1: No need to be downloaded or installed

2: Easy to maintain

3: Quicker and easier to build

Cons:

1: Can’t work offline

2: Slower and less advanced in terms of features

Mobile app

Pros:

1: Faster and better functionality

2: Can work offline

3: Safe and secure

Cons:

1: More expensive to build and maintain

2: Compatibility with different platforms (iOS and Android)

Next, I did case study on the web-based applications in the market, especially the data based web service that has successful app, to further analyze how they fit and perform in different media. .

  • Do they highlight the boundary between app and web?

  • What they focus on their web and app, such as features, actions or use case?

  • What’s the relationships between their app and web? How they work together?

Through my research, I realized that most product choices manifest on their web pages and apps in two different ways.

1. Similar functions, actions and user interface. Example: Airbnb

2. Completion of a Task vs Limited Functions or Less Interaction. Example: Google Drive, Dropbox

According to the research I find the main reasons for these two forms of representation are:

  • Different use case and user

  • If the functions and features are easy to achieve on the devices

After the research on mobile app and web, we start to ask ourselves.

Who are our target users? How would the use case for Saviynt mobile app be different from web?

 Design Process

The Goal

How might we improve the office efficiency of customer companies on mobile experience?

How might we improve the efficiency of managers in checking team risks and handling tasks?

We first took a look at the current app and try to find what we missed today according to our persona.

Problems

Then, we mapped out the user journey according to the persona. We hope to identify the different ways to enable the user to achieve their goal as quickly and easily as possible.
